REFLECT ACADEMY
INTRODUCTION
There has been a paradigm shift from sporadic awareness-raising to strategic, evidence-based social and behavior change (SBC) strategies after realizing that individual behavior is influenced by a range of factors including environmental, socio-cultural and gender norms. In Uganda and other parts of the world, communication has played a critical role in advancing health and development goals. Communication plays a powerful role in addressing barriers and shaping demand for and adoption of positive practices. High-quality SBC programs are essential in achieving positive behavioral impact.
Capacity building efforts delivered by CDFU over the years have provided skills development and knowledge through training workshops, practicum and mentorship sessions. Over the past five years, CDFU has built the capacity of more than 50 people, including interns and staff from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in SBC programming. The need to reach more people (such as graduates or individuals implementing health promotion and other SBC programs) with enhanced skills remains large, based on the requests CDFU receives. Beyond training, there is an additional need to provide support and guidance during practical skills application. CDFU believes strengthening the capacity of university graduates and SBC practitioners to enhance their competency to design and implement evidence-based programs is key. CDFU has established the “Reflect Academy” which will be at the forefront of capacity strengthening for people working in the field of SBC and university graduates passionate about community engagement. The Academy will also act as a space for mentorship and co-creation by SBC specialists.
The program will encourage participants to collaborate and work in teams to develop interventions and tools creatively and effectively manage implementation of projects. Participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate of participation.
