Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) produces and broadcasts the award winning radio serial drama Rock Point 256. Through the serial drama which started in 2005, CDFU reaches over an estimated 6,000,000 Ugandans with key messages addressing a range of issues including HIV&AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, child health, Gender Based Violence (GBV), malaria and civic education. Based on research, the radio serial drama influences the actions of its listeners by modelling behaviour change through “transitional characters”. Rock Point 256 empowers listeners in all regions of Uganda with skills to manage the different situations they are faced with. Rock Point 256 is a platform that can be used by different partners to create awareness and disseminate health and development information. Key partners on Rock Point 256 since the end of the Y.E.A.H project in 2012 include: Democratic Governance Facility (DGF); Save the Children Uganda; Uganda Health Marketing Group; Twaweza Initiative; International Labour Organisation (ILO) and NU-HITES. Through funding from the DGF for civic education, CDFU has established 46 youth-led community based civic education “platforms” (listening groups) to stimulate dialogue on civic rights and responsibilities. The listening groups are provided with radios and discussion guides to enable them listen to Rock Point 256 together and discuss emerging issues highlighted in the drama.
